What to expect in Brașov, how many days to stay, when to come and where to stay so you can see everything on foot from the old town.

Yes. Brașov is one of the best bases in Romania: a well-kept medieval old town surrounded by mountains, with Bran, Râșnov, Peleș and Sinaia all within an easy day trip. Plan 2 days for the city itself, and 3–4 days if you want the castles too.
Spring and autumn are pleasant and less crowded; summer is busy and lively; December brings the Christmas market on Council Square (see Christmas and New Year's Eve in Brașov); winter is good for skiing in Poiana Brașov.
Stay in the old town: you walk everywhere, and day trips start easily from there. See our apartments in Brașov's historic center and our guide to staying in the historic center.
